Getting Ready for Oregon Country Fair

Preparing for Oregon Country Fair took over my entire dining room.

For weeks, every table was covered with beads, charms, finished companions + pieces waiting to be assembled. I was making inventory while also figuring out how hundreds of colorful objects could live together in one booth without everything becoming impossible to see.

This was also the first batch of what would become Pocket Pals. At first, I was decorating little dog tags and imagining people clipping them onto anything—but people were not quite getting it.

Then I added keychains + suddenly, poof—they had a purpose, a name + a whole vibe. Pocket Pals were officially a thing.

Before packing, I built most of the display at home.

I tested the acrylic towers, hanging racks, colorful platforms + mannequin heads to see what needed more height and which areas felt too crowded. The goal was to create a booth that felt abundant and unmistakably Drea Svea while still giving every piece enough room to be noticed.

Setting everything up at home also helped me see where the collection needed more variety. I could make more of a missing color, size or type of companion before it was time to leave.

Once everything was packed and rebuilt at Oregon Country Fair, the weeks of work finally made sense. All the scattered pieces and crowded tables became one colorful little shop in the woods.

Seeing people walk in, study all the details + find the companion that felt like theirs made the long days of preparation worth it.

The finished booth looked like rainbow heaven.

Behind it was a very overtaken dining room + a lot of work made by hand. ✦
