A Day at the Drea Svea Worktable
Most making days begin with my table completely covered in beads, charms, chains, characters + trays of tiny pieces.
I usually start with a loose idea instead of a finished plan. I choose a main character or color combination, spread out anything that might work with it + start arranging. Sometimes everything comes together immediately. Other times a piece sits on my table for days because it still needs something.
This is also where the beginning of a character’s personality usually appears. A particular expression, phrase or strange little charm can change the whole direction. Before they have names or elaborate stories, they have a feeling.
Some become Puff Pals built around functional mini Bic lighter cases. Others become Pocket Pals that can attach to a bag, keys or belt loop.
Everything is assembled by hand, and I move the pieces around constantly before attaching them. I want each companion to have plenty of detail without losing the main character inside all the color.
By the end of the day, the table is usually even messier—but a few new little companions exist that did not exist that morning.
That is basically the Drea Svea process:
